A poignant artistic intervention against the tide of single-use packaging. Ducky is a striking narrative sculpture designed to hold a mirror up to our modern consumption habits, confronting the ecological crisis quietly unfolding across our lakes, rivers, and avian ecosystems.

The sculpture serves as a loud protest against the absurdly excessive layers of plastic embedded in modern delivery packages from courier bags and outer plastic sleeves to multiple layers of brittle, unrecyclable shrink wrap. This relentless flood of single-use plastic frequently breaks down into destructive microparticles, leaving lake birds and wildlife to mistakenly ingest toxic debris. Clutched tightly in Ducky’s beak is a real piece of shipping plastic, passing a clear, urgent message to the viewer: this is not food.

True to its anti-waste philosophy, Ducky’s physical form is cleverly engineered from items that were themselves on the brink of being discarded. The structural foundation and wings were born from a broken U-shaped metal candle stand. The oversized round head utilizes an empty, plastic giant Chupa Chups lollipop display container. Its prominent beak was hand-shaped using a reclaimed cardboard toilet paper roll core. Layered over with textured paper mache and finished with bright, expressive hand-painted details, Ducky transforms the very materials it fights against into a powerful voice for our natural ecosystems.

Description

Environment & Placement
• Versatile Styling: Perfect for indoor spaces or covered, semi-outdoor areas (such as shaded verandahs, balconies, or patios).
• Weather Protection: Do not expose the piece to direct rainfall, standing moisture, or prolonged, harsh UV sunlight, as extreme weather can affect organic mediums and hand-painted pigments over time.
Cleaning & Dusting
• General Care: Wipe surface areas with a soft, clean, dry, or slightly damp micro-fiber cloth.
• Intricate Details: Use a low-powered vacuum blower or a soft-bristled artist brush to gently remove dust from sculpted, highly textured contours.
• No Chemicals: Avoid harsh detergents, solvents, or abrasive chemical cleaners, which will strip the protective PU coatings.
Handling & Use
• Moving Safely: When relocating the piece, lift it entirely rather than dragging or sliding it across the floor. While our reinforced paper mache is highly durable and can be safely gripped, always move the object mindfully.
• Structural Respect: Do not stand, sit, or apply excessive vertical weight onto accent tables or decorative structural surfaces.

A Note to Our Collectors:
This is a functional art piece. Please treat it as an art collection rather than an everyday, mass-produced object. Minor natural variations in texture or tone over time celebrate its raw, organic, and up-cycled DNA, cementing its identity as a truly singular heirloom.
